Bioinformatics is a growing industry with new opportunities and demands appearing across the board – as a result, it is hard for students, faculty and researchers to keep up with this dynamic field. Pine Biotech has been working on the forefront of this challenge by making bioinformatics training in the logic of analysis using an intuitive analytical platform and public domain projects. The OmicsLogic program we have been piloting for a year now, is getting traction as we see positive feedback and more demand from a variety of users.
Students, faculty and researchers are using the T-BioInfo Platform to analyze high throughput biomedical data in oncology, neuroscience, infectious diseases, biotechnology and agrotech. Many of them come from a biology background and are learning for the first time how to select and run analyses on big public domain datasets. Following this first exposure to methods of data processing and analysis, students indicate that they can quickly advance to learn on their own and using the software independently. The user feedback also indicates that the exemplar projects (https://edu.t-bio.info/projects/ ) along with the intuitive software design lets students and faculty go past theory and apply bioinformatics to their own research. Most importantly, students overcome the initial technical barriers of coding and statistics and now believe bioinformatics is an integral and much needed part of doing better science.

It is promising to see that bioinformatics – a relatively new field of study – is becoming widely adopted by many schools and becoming a part of basic biology curriculum across many institutions. Overcoming the adoption barrier and helping students apply bioinformatics to answer their biological questions is a challenge we can solve together. That’s why our company is working with researchers across various research and industry domains to continue making bioinformatics accessible.
Judging from many of these responses from those that have completed our lessons or projects, users see a benefit to using this new system for learning and analysis in their experiments. There also seems to be an appreciation of the ease with which they can extract meaningful biological insights from analysis results. For faculty, the ability to work with students on their research projects and easily follow progress of learning online makes the program easy to implement and reduces the time it takes to engage with the students.
