The Metagenomics 1 course is a comprehensive resource, which starts with skimming the surface with “Why Study Metagenomics”, and gradually moves into deeper concepts like difference between 16S and 18S based metagenomics sequencing, the algorithms for preprocessing, mapping, generating abundance table, confounder and batch effects, sequencing depths and publicly funded “big data” repository projects etc.
The interspersed Videos touch upon real examples of metagenomics projects and answer questions like what patterns to look for and how to look for these patterns within the metagenomic data.
At the center of the course, like all other courses in the Edu Site, there is an interactive training resource pipeline, server.t-bio.info, where for each algorithm, there is a pop-up that describes the algorithm. This training experience makes the metagenomics course practical and hands-on, making it stand out from similar online courses.
