Pine Biotech and Institute of Genetic Engineering sign MoU to strengthen bioinformatics education in Eastern India
Pine Biotech, USA and Institute of Genetic Engineering, Kolkata, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on July 31st, 2019. This collaboration will pave the way for high-class education and training in big data analysis for bioinformatics and biomedical discoveries. Institute of Genetic Engineering (IGE) was established in 2003. For more than a decade this institute is engaged in imparting quality education and research in Genetics and Biotechnology. Located on the outskirts of the city, the institute is one of the best places to study Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology and Molecular Biology.
The collaboration comes at a time when Big Data is making a lot of changes in the way researchers approach the questions at hand. Studying and analyzing the whole gamut of data available and reaching conclusions based on the analytical understanding of the same is why this becomes important in the first place. For students, it is essential that they learn at the preparatory stages of how to work with data. The T-Bio Info platform gives them the opportunity to do this easily.

The first phase of this collaboration will focus on awareness in the following areas for students and faculties: Introduction to Bioinformatics, Transcriptomics (T1), Genomics (G1), Metagenomics (M1) & Application of Machine Learning (ML) using our educational portal (https://edu.t-bio.info) and analytical platform (https://server.t-bio.info).
The collaboration will benefit both students and researchers by helping them understand the role of big data in biomedical research as well as other related fields.
The major objective of this collaboration is to foster academic and translational research activities with the bioinformatics platform and curricular support from Pine Biotech
- To build institute infrastructure and facilities for Project-based Bioinformatics education and research
- Awareness workshops and webinars
- Seamless online bioinformatics platform for Big data analysis for experiments.
- Student-faculty discussion forum
