Pine Biotech had its first onsite awareness bioinformatics workshop at the Institute of Genetic Engineering (IGE) Kolkata on July 24th, 2019, which was attended by over 60 students and several faculty members. The main aim of the workshop was to introduce students to the analytical understanding of biological data and introduce them to the T-Bio platform. The collaboration between Pine Biotech and the Institute of Genetic Engineering will open new doors in the arena of biomedical research. This is in the hope that the new generation of researchers can be educated about the need to make use of the data available at hand purposefully.

The bioinformatics workshop was conducted by Dr. Mohit Mazumder and Dr. Pratim Chakrobarti. The following topics were covered in the workshop:
- Data-driven approaches in Biology
- A deeper understanding of Big data bioinformatics (NGS)
- Interactive bioinformatics curriculum (OmicsLogic)
- Analytical platform with a seamless UI – T-Bio Info
- Q&A and discussion on the applications of Bioinformatics
The introduction to the workshop was done by Prof. Amit Chakravarty, Director and Principal of IGE and Kamalesh Roy, Assistant Professor, IGE.
The bioinformatics workshop was followed by an intensive question & answer session with the faculty and students regarding the need for translational aspects of Modern Biology. It was really interesting to learn about the ideas and understanding of the students. The workshop was the first step in the direction of introducing the young people to the idea of solving complex data problems using the T-Bio platform as well as how to approach the data analytically.
This brings us to the conclusion if we can teach students at the basic levels on how to utilize data better along with the theoretical understanding of the various processes, we will be closer to finding answers to many important questions than we are in front of us.
