Sarah Ebrahim, is a 2nd year B.tech in Biotechnology at Amity University, Kolkata. Besides college, she enjoys sports and outdoor games like basketball and swimming. Her hobbies include singing, reading, writing and public speaking. She is a Campus Team Leader for MyCaptain, a Distinguished Toastmaster, and also a member of the TED community.
Sarah says her interest in Artificial Intelligence and its applications has paved the way for her interest in Bioinformatics. She participated in the Introduction to Bioinformatics program, a collaboration between Pine Biotech and Amity University, Kolkata, India. During the course of the program, she completed several courses on the T-Bio.Info portal such as Introduction to Bioinformatics, Genomics 1, Transcriptomics series, and others.
Every time our students complete a course or run a hands-on assignment on the server.t-bio.info platform, they acquire points. These points can later on be used to work on independent projects using our high performance computing infrastructure. The top performing students get prizes and are featured on our blogs that reach over 4000 people every week. With over 10,000 points, Sarah is number #45 on our leaderboard. We recently interviewed Sarah and this is what she had to say about a few courses she took:
“Introduction To Bioinformatics: The ABC to Big Data and Data Analysis
Your first and foremost step to learning all about Bioinformatics. It is all about the basics to Big Data, Data Analysis and Omics. Very detailed course but crisp with quizzes to examine how much you have understood, it is the complete package. It is a great quickstart guide for anyone looking into pursuing this field.”
“Transcriptomics 1: Your First Step Towards RNA Sequencing
Transcriptomics 1 is surely the best way to start off when you are curious about RNA sequencing. It starts from the basic concept of transcription in the central dogma of life to the quantification of mRNA and analysis of RNA raw data. The course provides you with extensive content to brood over and then hands-on experience of the same which is extremely helpful to the point that you understand the theoretical concept behind each topic. It is circumstantial but succinct and is a great continuation after Introduction to Bioinformatics course.”
The training program Sarah participated in allows students to develop an independent project that one can complete in a months time. Sarah’s objective was to perform a comparative analysis between two species of Tardigrades and to identify makes them one of the toughest creatures on the planet. Sarah wants to continue doing the workshops and courses to acquire an in-depth knowledge of bioinformatics. In the future, she will be appearing for the GATE or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering examination, GRE or Graduate Record Examinations as well as retake her SATs once again. She also wants to pursue M.tech in Bioinformatics as well. We congratulate Sarah on her achievements and wish her the best for future endeavors.
