Bioinformatics has a huge role to play in human health. Complex biological data can now be generated easily using high throughput technologies. In the context of human health, this is a major step forward as it helps to not only collect data on the number of diseases that plague human beings and animals but also analyze the data for conclusive results. For students of zoology, botany, microbiology, biotechnology and other associated fields this means that learning about this is critical and vital to ensuring a better life for all human beings.
Devalina Halder is an M.Sc Biotechnology student from Techno India University, West Bengal, India. She loves to learn new languages, enjoys listening to music, reading books and nature photography. While pursuing her Masters, Devalina was first introduced to Bioinformatics. For her it was a new concept at the time as she had just completed her Bachelor Degree in the field of Zoology. She liked the subject and thought that she would probably like to learn more about it later in life, especially applying bioinformatics to her area of expertise in biotechnology. The opportunity came after she completed her Masters – she heard about the Data Science for Biologists program from one of her teachers at her University. Knowing that this program will offer her a chance to learn about applications of bioinformatics in various fields as well as to apply bioinformatics analysis methods to various high-throughput data, she was excited to join.
The Data Science for Biologists program was offered jointly between Pine Biotech and Sister Nivedita University, Kolkata. For the duration of the program, Devalina completed several online courses, including Introduction to Bioinformatics, Genomics 1, Metagenomics, Transcriptomics series, Epigenetics 1. Each course includes practical assignments where datasets are analyzed and interpreted by participants. Devalina is continuing to finish up these practical assignments and is finishing up all of the other courses available.
With over 15,600 points, Devalina ranks #18 on our leaderboard.

This is what Devalina had to say about her experience:
“The courses were explained very coherently, with links to various websites, journals and educational videos, which helped a lot with the understanding. I learned about Bioinformatics, Transcriptomics, Genomics, Metagenomics, Machine Learning, and it was quite interesting. The quizzes, being a part of the courses helped improve confidence.”
“..I would like to extend my gratitude and sincerely thank the teachers at Pine Biotech, for explaining the subject topics so excellently! The online classes and interactive sessions were very informative and of immense help to me. Being a beginner in this field of Bioinformatics, I always felt encouraged to learn more and ask questions… It was an exceptionally good experience and a very useful program! I learned a lot about algorithms and their application utilizing the T-BioInfo platform… I am glad I had the chance to be a part of the program.”
The Edu T Bio Info platform and the T-Bio Info platform has been designed in a way that anyone can understand the subject matter being discussed. The online courses in bioinformatics methods and logic can help anyone with a basic understanding of biology leverage complex data analysis techniques. These topics help students of Zoology, Microbiology, Biotechnology or Bioinformatics understand how can complex data is generated using high-throughput technologies. For anyone who wants to work towards But they also learn about the methods to analyze this data to derive meaningful results.
