Pine Biotech has collaborated with Biologix Support Services in Nigeria to launch its first OmicsLogic Program in Africa, “Introduction to Big Data in Life Sciences”. This 15 day online/offline hybrid program aims to introduce the role of big data in biology for its participants. All students, researchers or faculty of life sciences can participate in this program. No one needs to know or learn to code and can learn about big data in biology. The program will be led by Dr. Voke Toye who is the founder of Biologix Support Services.
Dr. Voke Toye is the Founder and Managing Consultant at Biologix Support Services Ltd., a company that offers training in Genomics and Bioinformatics and provides laboratory support in the field of Molecular Biology. She has a Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Genetics from the University of Lagos and a Masters in Biomedical Technology (MBT) from the University of Calgary, Canada. Her research focuses on identifying modulations of the genotoxic drug hydroxyurea for sickle cell anemia treatment and also designing affordable genetic methods for sickle cell genotyping.
She is a recipient of the “100 Leaders of Tomorrow in Biotechnology“ at the GAP Summit, 2016 and “10,000 Women Goldman Sachs Scholarship for the Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management” at the Lagos Business School (LBS) in 2008. She is a member of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology (NISEB) and a member of the Organization for Women in Science in Developing World (OWSD).
During the course of her program, she has collected over 13350 points.
This is what she had to say about our OmicsLogic Program:
“As a Molecular Biologist, having to write programs and codes to analyze sequenced data seems like a lot to add to my already busy work schedule. The T-Bioinfo platform brings a new and friendly approach to analyzing genomic data, freeing up my time to focus on the biological aspects of my research. The online courses are similar to a flipped classroom format and easy to follow for independent study. I thoroughly enjoyed the 3 months OmicsLogic program on RNA- seq, and transcriptomics. I would recommend this training to any Biologist looking to enhance their data analysis skills”.
– Voke Toye, Ph.D. Cell Biology & Genetics
In the upcoming Introduction to Big Data in LifeSciences, Dr. Voke will be one of our mentors along with Dr. Jo Calihan, Darko Medin and Dr. Mohit Mazumder. We hope our collaboration will help to make our mission of making bioinformatics accessible to everyone a reality. If you want to know more about the program, read our blog here.
